For The Fan Presents: Stan Lee's Comikaze 2013

For The Fan Presents:

Stan Lee's Comikaze 2013

Hey guys! A couple weeks ago we had the opportunity to check out Stan Lee's Comikaze. We spoke with many people, visited many booths and saw the copious amounts of cosplayers lurking the main floors. Read on to get a look at how it went.

On November 1-3 we (Matt & Anthony) had the opportunity to check out Stan Lee's Comikaze. For three days we were surrounded by various artists, fans, exhibitors, and cosplayers from all over the Southern California area, and in some cases the world. All coming together to create the perfect harmony of all things comics, horror, sci-fi, anime and gaming.

This being our first con as For The Fan we have to say that this was a successful experience.

From the start we, for a lack of better terms, felt at home. A geeky, colorful, dressed up home, but a home nonetheless. Going in we saw the abundant amount of cosplayers filling the lobby and taking photos. The homemade costumes were far from average. Some better than others, but each cosplayer appealed to at least one person. The sight was quite impressive.

From the lobby you head to main show floor. There you find yourself in a state of nerd ecstasy-- Heaven on earth. The layout was fairly simple and organized rather well. There was a section for each from of media. Despite a few problems of trying to track down some of the booths listed, the floor was great. People purchasing comics, t-shirts, posters, and anything in between of their favorite character or icon. I made a few purchases myself. Maybe more so than I should have, but Top Ramen is alive and kicking. The rest of the shouldn't be all that bad.

The event had some thing for everyone. Whether it be an avid(collector, reader, filmmaker etc.) or an amateur. Each booth catered to a different demographic. The booths weren't the only ones to do this. Along with show floor and booths they also had an extensive amount of panels. Each panel featured a workshop or spotlight on a certain group or character. While there we had the opportunity to check out Black Tiger: Making An Indie Film On A Shoestring Budget , Making A Comic Step By Step including participants Tom Pinchuk Casey Crowe and Shawn DePasquale , 40 Years of Troma and many many more. Each panel was timed for about an hour and ran smoothly. Most panelists had more than enough time discuss their topic while still being able to answer any of the questions.

Comikaze was the home for many stars such as Bruce Campbell, Gerry Duggan, Alyssa Milano, Weird Al Yankovich, the list endless. People stood in lines, some for hours just to meet their favorite stars and/or characters. The prices were fairly decent. No more than 20 dollars for a signature and picture. Unless you were looking to meet Bruce Campbell or Stan Lee. Which were a bit pricey, but seemed more than worth the money.

Overall, Stan Lee's Comikaze was a complete success. We cannot wait to for more years to come. Comment below with any pictures, stories or anything you feel fit to speak about during your time at comikaze. Remember readers, stay classy.

OH! And remember when I said some cosplayers were better than others? Yeah... At least he's a looker.
