Fat Wreck Chords has released a ton of records in the past, and one of the premier things that they put out is this somewhat hidden gem. Not a lot of people that I’ve spoken with know about this one and it’s by far, one of my biggest recommendations. When the band Snuff decided to halt their progress, members formed Guns N’ Wankers and the result was a mix of sounds that sounded eerily like the former band, only this had no pretense, no keyboards, and was just straight forward in terms of lyrics and recording.

After a few 7” records, cassette tapes, and singles, the band took everything they had and compiled it for Fat Wreck and the result was “For Dancing and Listening”. These 8 songs represent every part of your life in the noise and fuzz of punk rock glory.  The bass on this recording is turned up loud, the guitars are fast and furious, and you have a high treble vocal that is hard to hear at times, but is very much layered in the approach of this band’s momentum.

The stand out tracks are hard to pick, because there’s only 8 songs on this release. However, Guns N’ Wankers stands tall on, “Skin Deep”, “Sunstroke”, “Raise Your Glass”, and pens one of the most brilliant songs ever written, on “Help”. The latter song being the track that should be representative of this band’s prowess with lyricism and musicianship. If you have ever loved and lost and felt better after some time, this should be your anthem because it very much defines the ballad without being slow and sappy. The chorus rings true for me, and millions of other people with the words, “I found a better place, without you. I found a better life too.” It’s that type of relevance that drives this record through the latter half and just when you think there’s going to be overproduction or a lackluster chord, the band broke up.

Guns N’ Wankers may be a funny name, but the band is so solid on this, that I have often times wondered why a lot of bands haven’t copied their formula. Even today this record sounds brand new. It’s relevant beyond the years and proves that great music doesn’t have to be devoid of message, meaning, and importance.

Pros: Uk Punk , Ahead of Their Time. Amazing Bass Sound

Cons: Too Short, No Follow Up, The Name Can Drive Some Away

Rating: 10/10

The acoustic performance of the song “Help” is by lead singer Duncan Redmonds, as a treat from the record. They released no music videos, but it gives a feel for the vocals, and writing from the record.
