We all know Godzilla, The King of Monsters. Throughout history this creature has carried the iconic look varying year after year. Well, here we are again with a whole new look that may pay homage to it's origins. Lets take a look at Godzilla and how this behemoth has evolved.

Godzilla( Gojira) is a Kaiju first appearing in Ishirō Honda's 1954 film Godzilla. Since then, Godzilla has gone on to become a worldwide pop culture icon starring in 28 films produced by Toho Co., Ltd.. The monster has appeared in numerous other media incarnations including video games, novels, comic books, and television series.

To this day this creature is feared by many almost as if it isn't fiction at all.

Just like any creature, Godzilla has evolved. From frightening to shit your pants scary. So, in honor of the new film I decided to take a step back in time and see exactly how our beloved monster has evolved.

Our first ever look at the creature was in Gojira. This film released in 1954 and brought to the world a whole new view on monsters. We were introduced to the kaiju, which means "strange creature" or in America "monster."

Here is Gojira from the 1954 film of the same name.

The impact of Godzilla was so strong America decided to take this creature and bring it home. In 1956 America released Godzilla: King of  The Monsters. The film was a re-edit of the original Japanese film. The original footage was dubbed in english and reshot with American actor Raymond Burr. Still sticking to it's original design, but adding that American flair we saw a whole new creature.

Later in the decades we see slight differences in Godzilla. Subtle, but still bringing something new to the table.

Here we have the creature in the 1962 film King Kong vs. Godzilla keeping it's original look, but at the same time giving us big, badder creature.

In this picture we see Godzilla fighting Hedorah in Godzilla vs Hedorah. This created more of an animated feel for our anti-hero.

The 1980's brought a not so great monster with it. There is just something not right with those eyes. BUT not all evolution has been pretty.

In 1991, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah we saw our beloved creature becoming half giant gorilla, half lizard.

Let's not forget the atrocity 1998 brought us. Portraying our hero as a giant lizard. What a shame.(I still enjoyed this abomination)

Then in 2000 this came along. A terrifying creature forming the idea of the original and new version of Godzilla.

Now here we are in the year 2013 awaiting a brand new Godzilla film to hit the theaters in 2014 and what does our creature look like this time?

As of right now this is what we have. Exciting isn't it? Reverting back to it's origins. Giving us our old friend an all new environment.

There you have it. Godzilla: An Extremely Brief Lesson in History.

Let us know what you think of the knew design? Are you excited for the film? Did I ruin Godzilla or mess up any facts? Comment below to let me us know.
