Smite - Free to Play

For the Fan Presents:

SMITE - Free to Play

Publisher: Hi-Rez Studios

Platform: PC

A truly unique and competitive multiplayer experience
Smite is a 3rd person action packed MOBA. When most people think of a MOBA, usually they think of League of Legends, which is much more popular than Smite. If you don't know what a MOBA is, it is a third person Multiplayer Online Battle Arena video game developed and published by Hi-Rez Studios for Microsoft Windows. In Smite, players take on the visage of a mythological god and take part in arena combat, using powers and team tactics against other player-controlled gods and non-player controlled minions.

Note: If you actually do know how Smite is played, you can skip this section:

Players are formed into two teams, with three or five players to each team. All players begin at opposing sides of a map at their team's 'fountain'. Before the players enter their respective lanes, they are granted 1,500 gold to buy starting items. These items consists of special abilities that enhance their gods. There are three continuous 'lanes' running from one side of the map to the other. Each lane is defended by a 'Phoenix' which is accompanied by a pair of extra defensive towers. The goal of each team is to get to the enemy titan which is defended by these towers and pheonix's before the other team and destroy it.

The characters you can pick from come from different backgrounds/religions and are based on real life mythological gods. Some examples would be Hades the god of the underworld, Ares the god of war, and Thor the god of thunder. (There are actually 54 different gods to choose from, and that number is going up every month, as the Hi-Rez development team is always adding in new gods.)

Not convinced you should play smite yet? The game is actually FREE TO PLAY! Yes, its completely free, the only thing real world money costs is getting your gods quicker and getting cool looking skins for your favorite gods. The game does require a well off computer, but its nothing too demanding.

STILL not convinced you should play smite this weekend? (Don't be stubborn!) This weekend, there is a double favor event in which if you play, you receive double favor, and favor is the in-game currency used to buy new gods with! The dev team shows us this in this rather unusual update video you can see here:

I will say the game has a learning curve, as the game usually fails to set you up with people in your experience circle, but if you follow a guide online and pick an easy starting god you should be fine! See you in the Arena!
