First Look: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Green Goblin

Sony just released this picture that gives a closer look at Harry Osborn aka Green Goblin.

Since the first release of Marc Webb's depiction of the villain fans everywhere have given the design negative reaction. Some of which were accurate and quite hilarious. One of the funnier things we heard was the comparison to Leonardo's character in What's Eating Gilbert Grape... And the rest was just natural slander you expect to hear from fans.

Well, check out the photo below and let us know what you think!

I still don't particularly like the design, but I don't hate it. I can't say much until I see the performance because to me The Goblin is more terrifying as a character than in any visual depiction.

Peter Parker continues to struggle with balancing his life as a high school student and his responsibilities as Spider-Man. When Peter begins to investigate more about his father's past, thanks to the help of his friend Harry Osborn, he begins to realize that the new threats of Electro and the Rhino all have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings in theaters May 2, 2014.

Alright! Another week, more new comics! Sorry for the delay on the buy lists this week! Work can get pretty crazy! Anyway, there's definitely some Marvel books worth mentioning this week! Without further a do! Lets get to it!

#3

Title: Guardians of the Galaxy #012
Price: $3.99
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Sara Pichelli

Story/Premise

"THE TRIAL OF JEAN GREY" PART 4! A surprise ally from one character's past comes to help, but is that enough against the most powerful army in the Universe?

Opinion:

So far, "The Trial of Jean Grey" has been an awesome and exciting crossover between the Guardians and the X-Men. It's really interesting to see how the X-Men from the past react to the Guardians, especially Rocket and Groot. If you've been reading this crossover so far you know that it's been a bit of a ride. If you like space adventure and aliens I would definitely pick up this book!

#2

Title: Fantastic Four #001
Price: $3.99
Writer: James Robinson
Artist: Leonard Kirk

Story/Premise

"THE FALL OF THE FANTASTIC FOUR" PART 1 The world's greatest comics magazine begins anew with Marvel's First Family, the Fantastic Four! But as the brilliant MR. FANTASTIC, the compassionate INVISIBLE WOMAN, the ever lovin' THING & the hot-headed HUMAN TORCH embark on a strange mission, they aren't met with new beginnings, but an untimely end! As the family of cosmic explorers head towards their darkest hour, who could possibly be behind their downfall? And how is one of their oldest enemies, the sadistic dragon known as Fing-Fang-Foom involved? Prepare for the fantastic!

Opinion:

The reason that this book made the top 3 of the buy list this week is mostly because I'm intrigued to know why exactly Marvel wanted to do another Re-Boot of Fantastic Four when the last run just ended a few weeks ago. According to the solicitations It's going to be interesting to see how this story plays out with it being apparently "the end."

#1

Title: The Superior Spider-Man #028
Price: $3.99
Writer: Dan Slott
Artist: Giuseppe Camuncoli

Story/Premise

"Goblin Nation" #2 (of 5) Goblins! Spiderlings! Super villains! Giant robots! It can only mean one thing: ASSAULT ON SPIDER-ISLAND!If you want to see people standing around talking, read another comic. Want to see heroes having a fist fight, go somewhere else? You are IN the GOBLIN NATION and this is ALL-OUT WAR!

Opinion:

This I think is obviously the #1 Marvel book coming out  this week as it is almost every week a new issue comes out. The anticipation behind this final story arc is incredible and if the last issue of SSM was any indication on how the rest of this arc will go, this issue will be absolutely no disappointment. If you've been reading Superior before this issue, keep getting it, if you are yet to pick up this title, pick up the last two issues a long with this one so that you kind of know what's going on!

WHO OWNS WHO?

Marvel owns the Avengers... Sony owns Spider-Man... and Fox owns The Fantastic Four and the X-Men? What about all the other crazy characters in the Marvel Universe?

I have asked myself this question on numerous occasions and often here it being the topic of many blogs, podcasts and see if brought up almost every night on forums. We all know who owns the rights to the big names, and we were all confused as hell when we heard that Quicksilver is going to be appearing in both, X-Men: Day's of Future Past, and Avengers: Age of Ultron but we now know that there was a split of ownership for him from Disney/Marvel and Fox. So this post is to help clear things up and to find out who we could actually see team up with the Avengers sometime in the future, and who we can cry ourselves to sleep about because there is no hope for a team-up. Once all of that is said and done, we're going to go in and see who has the chance of making it to the big screen, or even the small screen(TV) for that matter! So, enough of my rambling, let's get in depth about what key characters numerous studios own from Marvel Comics!

Story/Premise

Otto Octavius, the Superior Spider-Man, in a life-or-death struggle against the original Superior Venom! Plus: With one last goblin on his side, the Goblin King's court is now complete! Guest starring: The Avengers!

Review of the Book

With this issue of Superior Spider-Man being the final in the Darkest Hours story arc, I feel like I was expecting a bigger, and bit more complex ending to the arc then what we got. This issue was not bad by any means, but I can't sit here and say it was a 10/10 book either. It was a fun ride and we finally got the "return" of *spoiler warning* Peter Parker! Well, kind of. I was happy yet annoyed at the same time because, well, IT'S PETER! I was annoyed because it's somewhat of a plot hole. How did Peter's conscious come back when in issue #09 he completely forgets who he is? *spoiler over* Most of this issue consisted of us seeing an all out brawl between the Avengers, and "The Superior Venom" which was epic and crazy! Finally the Avengers get called in, and they're finally doing something about Spider-Ock! But yet when the dust settles, they still think everything is fine and dandy once Flash has the symbiote? The issue ends with the Avengers as well when we see Tony looking through the files and finding something out about Spider-Man that we all don't know and Captain America saying "That's it. Time to bring in Spider-Man." Okay? Wasn't that supposed to happen in this issue? I'm kind of irritated with the fact that most of the MU's character's intelligence has had to be dumbed down in order for Spider-Ock to continue on. Even when Stark was going through the avengers files, Spider-Woman was trying to tell him that he isn't a Skrull so there isn't anything to worry about. I don't know if it's just me, but I really think that they would realize something is still up. Which, they somewhat did after the fight, and THANK GOD Tony Stark still thinks something is up. So I'm expecting that the next issue we will see the Avengers really confront Spidey while Hobgoblin and Green Goblin are going at it. Speaking of Goblins! We see the introduction of a new Goblin! It's a certain little police lady turned Goblin and I think it'll be interesting to see how big of a role she plays in the upcoming Goblin arc. We may have also found out who is behind the Green Goblin mask because he nonchalantly said that he's Norman Osborn. Do I think he really is? No. I don't think it's Slott's writing style to just put something out there, and as he said in a recent interview, "there's always a twist." The best part of this issue in my opinion is definitely the development right now going on with all the Goblins. Kingsley, and the Goblin Army are an awesome side story going on, and next issue it all comes to a head and I cannot wait! Slott is doing a fantastic job of developing that side story! Overall the writing in this issue stays constant with how the writing has been in the entire Superior Spider-Man series. Absolutely AMAZING at times, and just average or below average at other times. I think the only reason I'm disappointed in this issue, and somewhat in the arc, is because I was hoping we would see an all out brawl between Agent Venom and Spider-Ock, but hey! It was still fun seeing Spider-Ock bond with the symbiote. The art by Humberto Ramos in this issue is standard Ramos art though I think it felt a bit rushed in some parts of the issue, but is still very well done as it usually is. Overall, the Darkest Hours story arc was one of the better arcs from this series so far and with the ending of series coming up, I'm interested and excited to see what the final chapter has in store for us!

Why to Buy & Rating:

WHY TO BUY!
Good writing, good art, interesting plot changes, great story development(specifically with the Goblins! Kingsley, and the Goblin army were the best part of this issue)

RATING: 8/10 (B)

Title: Scarlet Spider #024
Price: $2.99
Writer(s): Christopher Yost & Erik Burnham
Artist: David Baldeon

As Kaine begins to crumble under the pressure and guilt of what happened to Donald, at the hands of Kraven the hunter, more and more pressure begins to build on Kaines back. How will he handle all of this stress?

Story Summary(some spoilers)

The book starts with Kaine talking to a Catholic priest about the recent encounter with Kraven that has turned Wally against him and his friend Donald in the hospital fighting for his life. From there we see Kaine attempt to burn his Scarlet Spider suit but is un successful in doing so since it is flame resistant. Aracely grabs Kaine's suit and follows him up into his apartment so that she can talk some sense into him but instead is taken over by a day dream/nightmare. When Kaine enters his bedroom, Annabelle is laying on his bed ready to "get romantic" with Kaine. During Kaine and Annabelle's love fest, Aracely is in the front room in the middle of her nightmare. It all gets really crazy when Wally busts into Kaine's apartment so that he can arrest him for crimes he has committed in the past. (for examples go check out the clone saga) When Kaine see's Wally he completely agrees and admits to the crimes he has committed in the past, and gets on his knee's so that Wally can arrest him. THEN! It all gets really CRAZY when the real Annabelle comes in and see's Zoe in the elevator, who says she is Kaine's "lover". Annabelle is infuriated and confused when she see's someone who looks just like her in Kaine's apartment who turns out to be a dark demonesque figure. Zoe, then pulls out a rocket launcher because I am assuming she's just a crazy bitch and blows up the freaking apartment. And that is how this book ends.

Review of the Book

So did my summary make this book seem crazy? Good. Because this book is one big mess of drama! But it is also again, very very entertaining! I don't know what it is about Chris Yost's writing, but I love 99.9% of the material he puts out! This book had me laughing through most of it mostly because of the characters personality but at the end had me go "oh shit" with my jaw on the floor. The art in this book is also really good though I think Kaine looks a little too buff in this issue because in previous issues, when Kaine has the suit on, he is about the same size as Spider-Man in the Superior Spider-Man book. This is unfortunately one of the last two issues of this book which really bums me out mostly because I got into it late, and it's absolutely brilliant! Overall, this book is a lot of fun like the other Scarlet Spider issues and has me really excited for the final issue!

Pros, Cons, & Rating

PROS: Awesome writing, good art, fun book
CONS: No actual Scarlet Spider action, and there's only 1 more issue!

Rating:  8/10. Fun book, lacked suited up action, but set up the final issue of the series

Publisher: Marvel Comics
Title: Superior Carnage #005
Price: $3.99
Writer: Kevin Shinick
Artist: Stephen Segovia

As the wizard is now controlled by Carnage, how will Spider-Man defeat him? Or will Carnage destroy the Superior Spider-Man and prove that the symbiote will forever reign superior?

Summary of the Story

This issue focuses mostly on Klaw after his death and about how atoms will forever be moving. We see Spider-Man and Carnage more standing around then fighting. Spider-Man is able to get somewhat of a hold over the symbiote and detach it from the Wizard by bringing Cletus Kasady into the area of the fight. The symbiote then detaches itself from Wizard and attaches itself back to the original, dare I say it, "Superior" symbiote host. After Carnage finds its host it goes on a rampage killing the spider-soldiers and knocks Spider-Man out of the picture. As Carnage is about to bite off the head of the Wizard, Klaw comes back to life in the form of lightning and knocks out Kasady and detaches Carnage long enough for Spider-Man to contain it. The book ends with us learning that by being reattached to the symbiote, Kasady's brain has began to heal and that Carnage will be returning in February.

Review of the Book

I was excited for this issue but unfortunately disappointed. I was expecting this to be an all out battle between Spidey and Carnage and instead this book is a lot of decision making and narrative. With the lack of extreme carnageness in this book I am interested to see what happens in the next Carnage title that is coming out in February. The art in this issue was good just as it has been in the entire mini series, except for the stupid trench coat re-design. Overall I still enjoyed this issue but expected a lot more brutality.

Pros, Cons, & Rating

PROS: Good art, decent writing, and a good set up book for the future
CONS: It's a set up book, barely any action, really slow pacing

Rating: 8/10. Decent book but nothing really above that

Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #006 - Comic Review

Publisher: Marvel Comics
Title: Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #006
Price: $3.99
Writer: Christopher Yost
Artist: Marco Checchetto

Part two of Christopher Yost's "Superior Six" story arc is something fun and entertaining. After taking the sinister six hostage, The Superior Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus, puts his former villain team mates under mind control in order to fight crime with a "superior" super team. In part one we see the first development in this and see just how the sinister six react to being under the control of their arch nemesis. In this issue, part 2, we see how the city of New York, the police department, Mayor J. Jonah Jameson and the Avengers react to this recent team up and boy, none of them see happy. Now wanted by the Police Spider-Man and his new "superior six" take to the streets again to fight the wrecking crew, and the masters of evil who team up to take down Spider-Man and his team.

Story Summary(some spoilers)

The book starts with some of the most important Spider-Man characters reactions to the recent Spider-Man, Sinister Six team-up, and no one seems happy about it. After taking the stolen "quantum particle engine" back to Parker Industries for safe keeping, Spider-Man receives an alert of an attack on the city at the hands of the wrecking crew and the masters of evil. Spider-Man takes his mind controlled "superior six" out into the city once again in an attempt to stop them. While they are fighting, Sun Girl also shows to help Spidey and his team stop the villains. About halfway through the fight Spider-Ock (nickname for Superior Spider-Man) realizes that this attack is all a diversion so that the super villain "Lightmaster" could steal the quantum particle engine. When Spidey returns to Parker Industries he finds that he is too late and that Lightmaster had already stolen the device from inside Parker Industries. After a reveal that Sun Girl is Lightmaster's daughter, she is able to stop her dad from firing the device at Spidey and his Superior Six. Spider-Man the commands Sun Girl to shoot the device with her powers so that it would activate it. After activating the device Spidey notices that the blast had knocked out his mind control over the sinister six and they are now free. The book ends with Spidey staring at his villains, setting up the next issue to be one heck of a battle.

QUICK NOTE: When the hell did Parker Industries get formed? I know Peter was trying to start it up in the main SSM title but I don't remember it's actual formation? Is "SSM Team-Up" supposed to take place in the future of SSM? If you have any idea

Review of the Book

Overall I very much enjoyed this issue of Superior Spider-Man Team-Up and think that it's definitely better than the previous three issues. This book has a lot of great action and is a pretty good representation of who the Superior Spider-Man is and how he acts, versus the overly arrogant version we've got in any other book he's made an appearance in. I think Christopher Yost did an awesome job with the pacing of this story and an awesome job with the way everything is falling apart with the Sinister Six. It really adds something new to the SSM universe. The art in this book was just absolutely beautiful! It's honestly some of the best art I've seen in a book lately. Super realistic style to it and it fits this books style perfectly!

Pros, Cons, and Rating

Pros: Good Writing, beautiful art, awesome action, and just a good intense feel to it!
Cons: The villains don't have any motives, and it felt like a very short read

Rate: 8/10. Overall a very fun and intense book!

Today Sony released yet another photo from their upcoming superhero sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The photo shows Max Dillon(Electro) reaching out at what seems to be an electrical pipe. My guess is that this is from right before he falls into a tank of electric eels and becomes Electro.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for a May 2nd 2014 release and stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx, and Emma Stone.

Hey there everyone! In addition to the Comic Book Suggestions I do every week over twitter, I am going to be posting my top 3 picks from Marvel Comics, and DC Comics on the blog with the premis of the issue and my opinion on the book/issue coming out that week! For full suggestions be sure to follow on twitter! Now, on with Marvel Comics!

SUGGESTIONS:

#3:

Title: Avengers #23
price: $3.99
rating: T for Teen
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Cover art: Leinil Francis Yu

PREMISE:  INFINITY TIE-IN "AVENGERS UNIVERSE: VI" The Avengers versus the Black Order. The battle for Earth moves planet side.Thanos takes center stage.

OPINION: As the Marvel event Infinity is coming to a close, we get one of the final two Avengers tie-in's this week. I have personally loved the Infinity event(even though my wallet hasn't) and am really excited to see how this final chapter will pan out with Thanos and am interested to see whether or not SPOILER: Thanos is going to kick the bucket

#2

Title: Superior Spider-Man Team Up #6
price: $3.99
rating: T for Teen
Writer: Christopher Yost
Cover Art: Paolo Rivera

PREMISE: THE SUPERIOR SIX CONTINUES! Spider-Man has formed his own SUPERIOR super-hero team... out of the SINISTER SIX! As Spider-Man deals with the challenges his new team poses, Lightmaster makes his move! Can Spider-Man trust his new team, aka his greatest enemies, when a reformed Masters of Evil come calling?

OPINION: This is the first of two SSM books in the buy list this week and this one here is SSM Team Up #6 by mr. Christopher Yost. This is part 2 of the Sinister Six story arc that he's been planting since Avenging Spider-Man and as much as I love Spidey and Yost's writing, I can't say I'm too excited for this book. I felt like part 1 of this arc was fairy decent but I didn't feel like it was anything great and was a bit let down. I guess as seeing that things are getting pretty crazy in the main SSM title, this one isn't as crazy airgo, leading it to feel less than satisfactory.

#1

Title: Superior Spider-Man Annual #1
price: $4.99
rating: n/a
Writer: Christos Gage
Cover Art: J.G. Jones

PREMISE: This ain't no regular Annual, buck-o! This one counts! BLACKOUT is back, and he wants to re-establish his reputation by killing the toughest guy in town... Spider-Man! He plans to force Peter Parker Spidey into a trap. Blackout's leverage? Aunt May! The world will never look at Superior Spider-Man the same after this. BE THERE!

OPINION: The number 1 Marvel book this week goes to Superior Spider-Man Annual #1. I think I would be more excited for this book if Dan Slott was writing it because then we would be seeing more of the same writing style, and version of SSM that we are used to. But since it is a different writer I feel like this might be a cheap knockoff version of SSM that we've gotten in previous crossover events. With a $5 price tag I sure hope that this annual is worth it! I am honestly really nervous for this book but also excited because SSM is my favorite Marvel title out right now a long with Deapool.
